🔧 About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet and help lead the day‑to‑day running of our workshop. You’ll work closely with our machine operators and Operations Manager to keep our fleet running smoothly. The role is based mainly in the Wairoa workshop, though some in-the-field jobs are required.

Key responsibilities include:

• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues across vehicles, trucks, and earthmoving machinery

• Carrying out regular servicing and fleet health checks

• Maintaining digital maintenance and repair records

• Managing COFs, WOFs, registrations, and scheduled servicing

• Ordering parts, tools, and workshop supplies

• Identifying operator behaviours that impact machine wear and raising these with the team

• Ensuring workshop H&S standards, documentation, and audits are up to date

• Improving workshop systems for efficiency and profitability

• Mentoring junior staff and supporting their development

• Assisting with on‑site repairs when required

• Welding and fabricating

🧰 What you’ll bring

• 8+ years’ experience as a heavy machinery or diesel mechanic

• Relevant trade qualification (ideal but not essential)

• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks

• Good communication skills and a team-focused attitude

• Solid understanding of workshop H&S requirements

• Physical fitness and comfort working in a hands-on environment

• A licence to drive heavy trucks is a bonus.
